Kainen, Escalera & McHale, P.C. is a law firm that focuses its practice on private and public sector labor and employment law and litigation with attorneys who have over a century of experience in these areas of the law. Within our practice, we provide counseling and preventive services as well as defense against litigation brought in the state and federal courts and representation at hearings before administrative agencies and arbitrators.

Attorneys who had mainly been practicing law together for several years at other larger Hartford-based firms, founded our firm in 2000. The decision to start our own firm was largely driven by our recognition that successful providers of legal services must find ways to deliver those services cost effectively. Our experience indicates that a boutique labor and employment firm has a competitive advantage because we can control expenses and hold the line on hourly rates while, at the same time, provide the highest quality services. Indeed, our firm is listed on the first-tier rankings for management representation in employment law and labor law in the inaugural 2010 edition of U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” rankings, and our firm was recognized again by U.S. News for 2011-2012 as one of the best law firms for management representation in employment law and labor law.  The badges reflecting the recognition are displayed below.

Employers today need timely, effective and cost efficient representation, and we have tailored our practice to allow us to meet those needs. Unlike many larger firms, each of our lawyers has many years of experience in the practice of labor and employment law. As a firm, we have not hired new lawyers out of law school only to expect our clients to pay for their training. Further, our operating philosophy does not allow us to use two attorneys to do the job of one, or to treat disbursements as a profit center. Rather, low overhead and appropriate staffing allows us to hold the line on legal fees so that we can provide our clients with high quality services at competitive rates.
