Byars, et al v. Waterbury Board of Education (defendant’s verdict in Connecticut Superior Court upholding the legality of mandatory school uniform policy).

Monroe Board of Education and Monroe Education Association (successfully defended the administration’s decision to terminate a tenured teacher for inappropriate conduct with a student).

Mulero v. Hartford Bd. of Ed. (obtained dismissal in U.S. District Court in action brought by former teacher asserting race discrimination, disability discrimination and retaliation for engaging in protected activity).

Skiff v. Colchester Bd. of Ed. et al. (summary judgment granted for the employer and school administrators in U.S. District Court lawsuit based on claims of age discrimination, equal protection and due process brought by former teacher. This decision was subsequently affirmed on appeal).

Monroe Board of Education and Monroe Education Association (successfully defended a grievance challenging the layoff of a less senior music teacher based on the application of a contract provision that created exceptions to strict seniority in layoffs).

Treat-Perry v. East Haddam Public Schools (prevailed in hearing before the Freedom of Information Commission arguing that parent and student surveys were an integral part of district teacher evaluations and as such were not public documents).

Student v. Voluntown Board of Education (prevailed in special education due process hearing alleging board of education failed to properly assess student integration skills and provide proper transition services).

Student v. Newtown Board of Education (prevailed in special education due process hearing alleging board of education failed to properly evaluate and identify student; parents denied reimbursement for three years of unilateral residential placement).

Successfully served as lead investigators in complex investigations, including:

  • Connecticut State Department of Education fraud investigation concerning operation and governance of a charter school
  • Connecticut State Department of Education investigation concerning staff tampering on CMT testing in local school district; and
  • Waterbury Board of Education investigation into administrator misconduct an elementary school.
